DISCOVER TANAMÁ • ECO-PARQUE
A forest canopy among a mountain range in tropical Puerto Rico provides the setting for Eco-Parque del Tanamá. Located at Utuado, a farming town about 1.5 hours from San Juan, Eco-Parque del Tanamá will offer Nature-related experiences and direct access to the Tanamá River, as well as geo-tourism activities throughout a coffee plantation. The park will be an eco-conscious destination. Combining modern amenities and accommodations with rustic touches, it will be inspired by the utmost respect to the ecosystem as well as the surrounding farming community.Nature itself will be an attraction. The area features spectacular views of the karstic mountains corridor –a geological formation in which erosion has produced sinkholes, underground streams and caverns–, which only exists at three locations around the world! There are trails of varying difficulty within a dense forest area. Access to the river is a walk away. In addition, over 27 species of birds live at the forest, making it a paradise for bird watchers as well as to their feathered friends. The weather is mild, with average temperatures of 78 degrees Fahrenheit during summer and an enjoyable 55 degrees Fahrenheit during winter. If you want to explore outside of the Park, you can visit the Taíno Indian Ceremonial Park at Caguana, the Arecibo Radio Telescope Observatory (a world-class landmark) and the Caverns at Camuy River – the largest underground river caverns in the Caribbean. All these attractions are at a short driving distance from Eco-Parque del Tanamá. And if you cannot imagine being in the Caribbean without going to the beach, the nearest coast is roughly one hour away. The park’s amenities will include several categories, with more to be added along the way:
Eco-Parque del Tanamá has developed a strict Conservation and Management Policy to ensure the preservation of forestland, brooks and the local flora and fauna. Following the principles of eco and geo tourism, measures will be taken to protect both natural and cultural resources in the area, including those of historic, recreational or archeological value. The park has a good-standing relationship with the Municipality of Utuado and will work with adjacent communities in the development of eco-tourism projects that will benefit community members.
